Where it all started

From an early age I’ve been fascinated by Astronomy and optical
devices. I was given a pair of WWll binoculars which I don’t think
left my side for a few months. Fascinated by binoculars,
periscopes, kaleidoscopes and microscopes I got my first
telescope, a 2 inch refractor as a birthday present when I was

                                                                                             nine.

The thing that really got me started with Astronomy was
using this reflector in the back garden. I can remember

very vividly in the first few days of having it looking at
various stars through it until suddenly I focused on a star
and it had “rings”. Yes I had found Saturn. I was so
excited I rushed into find my Dad to bring him out and
show him and then spent the next half an hour or more
trying to find the same star!

Over the years as I grew up I learned about the sky and

the constellations but was never really in a position to get
              a serious telescope.
