When I’m imaging, I control the telescope from the relative
comfort of one end of our hobby studio. Using a Windows 7
system with two screens to accommodate the six or seven
software programs required to automatically control the
imaging session and a second Windows system for weather
forecasting and general computer use. As this building is
situated only a few metres away from the telescope I have
found heating the studio during imaging can affect the local
seeing so I tend to keep it just warm enough to take the chill
off.
The image to the right shows the control area with “Astrocat”
reviewing the nights plans!
The pictures below and left show part of the weather station on the studio and
the Aurora rain / cloud sensor, both of which combine to provide automatic
weather event control of the imaging session including closure of the Dome if it
rains or gets to cloudy or windy.
